I have been trying since before Paul was born to do a "planned" photo shoot. An exercise that in theory after your labor should present you with a dozen fabulous original photographs. Photographs that make people stop and "ohhh" and "ahh", they are most likely black and white and feature a lot of little nude bums. But my attempts at making this actual session happen have been feeble and forgotten. After realizing this I came to the conclusion that maybe this is a good thing, that these posed or arranged shots are what I don't want. I started thinking about what my goal of it all is, and that is so I have some really nice shots I can print in 8 x 10 format or use for gifts, albums etcetera. And then I realized another thing - every day I take photos of Paul, and yes while most of them are not usable, they are far superior to any studio session. They capture his spirit, his growth, his personality. They are a running book of his life. And there are some damn fine shots too. With all respect to professional photographers I think I will tackle this one on my own, well me and bubba that is.

Boo...photo shoots are so much fun with you pliable bunch! Maybe, just maybe, we can capture his spirit WITH a planned photo shoot. Possible? Very much so I think.
