a great loss for seattle

It saddens me to write this entry. This past weekend Woodland Park Zoo mourned the loss of 6 1/2 year old female elephant Hansa. She was found early Friday morning beside her mother.

Whenever animals pass away it saddens me, a considerable bit. I just think of their innocence. Hansa was a big part of the zoo & Elephant forest, one that will not be replaceable.

Perhaps one of the most heart breaking elements of this story is that it was one of the elephants who past. And elephants mourn their dead. Big time. So not only will this loss be felt by the community and all those that were fortunate to work with her but it will be felt greatly and without a doubt within the hearts of her own family.

For more information on her passing the press release can be found here.
