sweat city

Why is it that when I come to Portland it is always a million degrees. We have had some higher temperature weather in Seattle lately but nothing to compared to here. The difference in temperature between the 2 cities simply comes down to Portland's lack of cool breezes. And if there is a breeze it's a warm one. Not exactly something to cool you off.

The last time that I visited this city was about 2 years ago. I had the entire day to explore and I was eager to soak in all of the individual boutiques that the Pearl & Alphabet districts have to offer. That day it was 110. By three o'clock I was so sweaty, tired and hot that I had to go to the Aveda spa for a little downtime, air conditioning and a shower. It's not 110 today but it is at least in the mid eighties. And this time I have the kids to worry about, as neither of them do well in the heat. Our solution is to give them an opportunity to not be in the heat for the entire day. This morning Jue went to day care. This was her first experience with it and it seemed to go well. She is now completely exhausted and was actually falling asleep while waiting for a treat when we got home. Brilliant. As for Paul and I we have been able to take in the city this morning and then seek refuge from the nasty sun at our hotel. I won't kid anyone, it's a fabulous hotel. So fabulous that I don't feel one ounce of guilt about being inside right now rather then working on sun stroke.
