I'll take common sense for a hundred please

I don't tell people that I am going to call them back if I don't have any intention of doing so. I defiantly don't tell people - I'll call you Tuesday - and then don't. In my opinion this is one of the rudest things you can do to someone. Tell someone that you in fact plan to get in touch with them on a specific day and then bail out, with absolutely no explanation.

With this in mind I generally use email as a way to get in contact and chat with people. I don't use email over the telephone because I think it is less personal or so that I can be some how less accountable for timely replies to people. I use it because I find that in today's world it is easier to get a hold of people and I like that if I need to I can write someone back that long winded email at 2am and it will be there for them the next morning.

With this said it is important for me to point out that I don't feel people should make false promises in regards to email either. Personally, I find making response deadlines/promises via email and then failing to follow through even more insulting then with the telephone. There is no need to lead people on, fill relationships with false hopes or promises or to fuck people around. Just be honest.
